Switzerland

filmed by Vincent Moon

I met Julian long time ago, in between Chile (where he's from) and Peru, in between cuecas and peñas. But it's at the end of 2019, in a revolted Santiago city, that I filmed for the first time his 5 piece a cappella ensemble Coral Rojo (watch here)

Two years ago, we met again, this time in Berlin. Coral Rojo was touring a few shows in Europe, and one evening we recorded, late again, a fabulous rendition of 'Vuela Golondrina' - (watch here)

That recording stayed with me for a long time, and I started to use it more and more in my own live cinéma performances - often to close the session, and leave the audience in that suspended, divine feeling. Of course, the first question was coming - 'who is this band...?'

Last month, am in Lausanne when my phone rang - Julian is calling, to ask about a possible project together for next year. I am surprised he calls me so early, as time difference with Chile can be pretty big. But he is not in Chile - he is with his entire band in Switzerland, rehearsing some new songs, just about 2 hours drive from where I am.
3 days later we meet on the top of a mountain, just in between. Nothing in mind apart from spending the afternoon together and recording a few songs. Julian (Herreros) is there at the center, with the 4 other members of Coral Rojo.
We are accompanied by a few other close friends, to witness the simple magic of being together. They start to sing, and here comes an incredibly refined, old and new, simple and sacred music. It seems it comes down from the sky they are holding over their heads. Enjoy this film, enjoy this music. It's been haunting me for a while, in the most delicate way - I hope it will do the same to you.
