A Take Away Show with Stick In The Wheel

[FR] À Arles, la nécropole des Alycamps aligne ses lourds tombeaux d’antan sous une canopée de pins qui grésille de cigales. Les Nord-londoniens de Stick in The Wheel, de noir vêtus, s’y avancent à pas feutrés, pour entonner deux petites chansons folk au minimalisme brut. Le regard de la chanteuse Nicola Kearey s’intensifie dès que résonnent les premiers arpèges à la guitare de Ian Carter, et tout invite au recueillement. Puis, sous les grands pins devant l’église St Honorat, halte ancestrale des Chemins de Compostelle, l’on retrouve furtivement quelques frappes de mains qui s’égrainent si souvent dans leur musique, marquant par là-même un magnifique clap final, cinématographique et musical.

[ENG] In Arles, the necropolis of Alyscamps aligns its heavy ancient tombs beneath a pine canopy crackling with cicadas. North Londoners Stick in The Wheel, dressed in black, tread softly through, to offer two small folk songs in raw minimalism. The gaze of singer Nicola Kearey sharpens as soon as Ian Carter’s first guitar arpeggios resonate — and everything invites contemplation. Then, beneath the tall pines before the church of Saint Honorat, an ancient waypoint on the Camino de Santiago, we fleetingly catch the rhythmic handclaps that so often punctuate their music — offering, in this moment, a beautiful cinematic and musical final clap.
