« It was probably years of travels and musical encounters between us. Years apart, each tracing its own path, from the early 2000s in Paris, where under his moniker Encre he was part of this new musical scene which excited me deeply, before I even started to make films. A series of “missed rendez-vous” and we never truly made a recording together. So on that day when my own booking agent (also his) told me that Yann (Stranded Horse) would be in town soon for a show and asked me if I wanted to come see it, I didn’t hesitate a second. But added a new equation in the game - let’s make a little film. I don’t spend much time in Paris, and it seemed obvious it was a moment to catch, now or never. Le Consulat, the greatest venue in Paris for the past 3 years, and now in an uncertain moment for the future, was also always a place I wanted to film something in. Boubacar the Senegalese magician was accompanying him on kora, but as everybody was getting late, we lost the possibility to make any rehearsals. We had only one chance to catch, one take and nothing else. We took it. And we got high, so high. »
