ESPERANDO EL TSUNAMI • outtake • ATERCIOPELADOS
Aterciopelados, is Colombia’s emblematic rock band. Since 1990, Hector Buitrago and Andrea Echeverri have developed a unique musical approach, which draws both from their Latin American roots and from contemporary influences. Their line of work is marked by the conceptual content of their songs and the recovery of the ritual dimension of music.
In these 20 years of experimentation and construction of their musical identity, they have given birth to 10 albums: Con El Corazon En La Mano (1993), El Dorado (1994), La Pipa De La Paz (1996), Caribe Atomico (1998), Gozo Poderoso (2000), Evolucion-Grandes Exitos (2002), Andrea Echeverri (2004), Conector (2005), Oye (2007), Rio (2009).
They are activily engaged in ancestral, environmental, anti-war and pro-feminine issues, having been the first Colombian band to publicly support indigenous medicine. They have received two Grammy awards.

** We filmed Aterciopelados at Andrea Echeverri’s gorgeous home in Cota, the peaceful countryside near to Bogotá. It was our very first day of filming. They performed a few songs in their new acoustic line-up; and then we improvised with them outside. For the outtakes, we chose their song Ataque de Risa, who was co-written by Andrea and her daughter, a very simple and playful anti-war theme.
