Fiume Nights • EFTERKLANG
There’s an interesting and very obvious thing i just realized while filming the danish band (in two words, one of the most beautiful live experience you can have those days) during their soundcheck - that filming soundchecks is often much more interesting from a cinema point of view than filming live shows. I would love to develop on that but don’t have the energy now, just to say, that filming live shows is very restricting (in terms of angles, of respects of the action and of the audience) and almost only in a frustrating document/report sort of feeling (here’s what happened, here’s what you missed), while filming a band soundchecking is an amazing opportunity to be, simply, amongst the action, on stage, in close ups. It’s something i only seriously experienced while filming the Arcade Fire live two years ago, and it gave some very unique images. When i went on stage to film Efterklang, i didn’t know the song, i just had one try (i didnt get right to film there and was ejected after that song), but could simply get access to unique angles and be part of the band for 4 minutes. In a way… . Too bad that in the music industry, not everybody is part of the band, but i will come back on this later.
